Abu Dhabi students gear up for success with ADEK’s Pre-Departure Week

emirates7 - The Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) has launched its annual Pre-Departure Week to prepare 300 students from its scholarship programmes for their academic journeys overseas.

Organised in partnership with 25 national and international entities, the initiative is designed to equip students with the essential skills, mindset, and knowledge needed to succeed in their studies abroad while proudly representing the UAE.

The programme offers a comprehensive preparation experience focused on academic readiness, cultural adaptation, mental resilience, and everyday life skills. Workshops cover topics such as leadership development, financial management, personal safety, and wellbeing strategies to help students adjust and thrive in their new environments.

Partners involved in delivering the programme include the Ministry of Defence, Abu Dhabi Police, Department of Government Enablement, Sandooq Al Watan, Family Care Authority, Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre, General Authority of Islamic Affairs (AWQAF), and Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy, among others. Contributions also come from nine foreign embassies offering specialised insights and training.

Built around 11 core pillars—shaped by feedback from students, families, and industry experts—the programme goes beyond academic preparation to include themes like national identity, cultural preservation, global mobility, and legal awareness. These elements guide students in representing the UAE with dignity and understanding their rights and responsibilities abroad.

The programme also highlights essential health and safety knowledge, such as infection prevention and personal wellness, along with professional conduct and international etiquette to help students confidently engage in diverse social and academic settings.

In addition to theoretical knowledge, students participate in interactive sessions and simulations. The week concludes with a hands-on culinary class at the International Center for Culinary Arts – Abu Dhabi, where they learn practical cooking skills and nutrition basics to support independent living.

So far, ADEK has awarded 2,190 scholarships to students pursuing education in over 20 countries—underscoring the UAE’s commitment to developing globally minded, academically successful, and culturally grounded future leaders.
