emirates7 - Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC – Masdar, a global leader in renewable energy, has announced the sale of its share in the Sharjah Waste-to-Energy plant to Tadweer Group, pending standard closing requirements. Tadweer, a specialist in maximizing the value of waste, will now join forces with BEEAH, a regional pioneer in sustainability and innovation, as co-owners of Emirates Waste-to-Energy—the company behind the plant’s development and operations.
This strategic transaction enables both Masdar and Tadweer to align more closely with their core business goals. While Masdar continues to accelerate its global clean energy expansion, Tadweer is strengthening its local and international presence in waste-to-value solutions.
Under the new partnership, Tadweer and BEEAH will pool their waste management expertise to ensure the continued sustainable operation of the Sharjah Waste-to-Energy plant. The joint venture will also explore further development opportunities, including a planned expansion that would double the plant’s capacity—boosting power generation from 30 MW to 60 MW and significantly increasing its ability to process hard-to-recycle waste and reduce emissions.
Commissioned in 2022, the Sharjah facility is the Middle East’s first commercial-scale waste-to-energy plant, playing a key role in diverting waste from landfills and converting it into electricity in line with the UAE’s sustainability goals.
Masdar CEO Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi expressed pride in the project’s impact and appreciation for BEEAH’s collaboration, stating confidence in Tadweer and BEEAH’s continued success in advancing the initiative.
Tadweer Group’s Managing Director and CEO Ali Al Dhaheri emphasized that acquiring this top-tier asset will strengthen the group’s capabilities and support the UAE’s goal to lead in sustainable waste management and energy recovery.
BEEAH Group CEO Khaled Al Huraimel also expressed gratitude for Masdar’s partnership and enthusiasm for the new chapter with Tadweer, anticipating continued innovation in waste-to-energy across the region.
The agreement reflects a shared dedication to the UAE’s sustainability agenda and highlights ongoing collaboration to drive clean energy innovation and global energy transition.
