Meta to invest hundreds of billions in superintelligence efforts

emirates7 - Meta Platforms is preparing to invest hundreds of billions of dollars in computing infrastructure to pursue its goal of developing superintelligent AI, CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced on Monday.

In a post on Threads, Zuckerberg said the company aims to assemble one of the most skilled and concentrated teams in the industry and has the financial strength to back this ambitious initiative.

“We're planning to invest hundreds of billions in computing power to superintelligence,” he wrote.

Superintelligence refers to a theoretical form of AI that surpasses human cognitive capabilities.

As part of the initiative, Zuckerberg revealed plans for massive data centers. One of them, named Prometheus, is scheduled to become operational in 2026. Another, called Hyperion, is projected to eventually require up to 5 gigawatts of electricity—an amount sufficient to power over four million average U.S. homes, according to experts.
