American Amanda Anisimova faces Poland's Iga Swiatek in the Wimbledon women's final

emirates7 - Amanda Anisimova and Iga Swiatek are both vying for their first Wimbledon title as they face off in Saturday’s women’s final on Centre Court.

For Anisimova, a 23-year-old American, this marks her debut appearance in a Grand Slam final. In contrast, 24-year-old Swiatek from Poland has already claimed five major titles — four at the French Open and one at the US Open — but has never advanced this far on Wimbledon’s grass courts until now.

The final is set to begin at 4 p.m. local time (11 a.m. EDT).

Swiatek enters the match as the favorite, with BetMGM Sportsbook listing her at -250 on the money line, while Anisimova stands at +210. Despite their prominence, the two have yet to meet as professionals; their only previous encounter came during their junior days, when Anisimova defeated Swiatek in 2016. Both had standout junior careers — Anisimova claimed the 2017 U.S. Open girls' title over Coco Gauff, while Swiatek won the Wimbledon junior championship in 2018.

Saturday’s winner will become the eighth straight first-time Wimbledon champion in the women’s draw.

Swiatek, who held the WTA No. 1 ranking for much of 2022 through 2024, is seeded eighth at Wimbledon, having gone over a year without a tournament win. She served a one-month suspension last year after a failed out-of-competition drug test, which was ultimately attributed to a contaminated medical product she had used to address sleep and jet lag issues.

Anisimova, born in New Jersey and raised in Florida, made a breakthrough as a 17-year-old semifinalist at the 2019 French Open. She stepped away from tennis a couple of years ago to deal with burnout and returned last year, attempting to qualify for Wimbledon but falling short due to her then-low ranking of 189.

Regardless of the outcome on Saturday, Anisimova is guaranteed to enter the WTA top 10 for the first time in her career next week.
