emirates7 - HM Alchahine (FR), a four-year-old Purebred Arabian gelding owned by Helal Alalawi (France), claimed an emphatic win in the UAE President’s Cup, run over 1,600 metres at Hamburg’s Horner Rennbahn on Sunday. This marked the seventh leg of the UAE President’s Cup series, which is now in its 32nd edition.
Held under the patronage and guidance of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court, the Cup underscores the UAE’s steadfast dedication to safeguarding and promoting the global prestige of Purebred Arabian horses — a treasured symbol of Emirati culture and tradition.
Coinciding with the 156th German Derby, the Hamburg event attracted a crowd of nearly 30,000 attendees and featured a record-breaking prize of €250,000 — the highest-ever purse for an Arabian race in German history.
Trained by Jean-François Bernard and expertly ridden by jockey Cristian Demuro, HM Alchahine delivered a commanding performance to secure his second UAE President’s Cup triumph, having already won the Italian leg. He crossed the finish line in 1:45.42, further solidifying his reputation on the European Arabian racing scene.
Al Wakrah (FR), owned by Al Shaqab Racing, took second place under trainer Jean-Loup de Mieulle and jockey Olivier d’Andigné. In third came Al Zeer (FR), trained by François Rohaut and ridden by Adrie de Vries, representing owner Mohamed Fahad A.H. Al-Attiyah.
Other contenders included Papillion T (HOL), trained and owned by Gerard Th. Zoetelief of the Netherlands, along with Al Zwair (FR) of Al Shaqab Racing, and Djafar (FR), owned by Abubaker S.A. Kadoura — all of whom showed strong competitive performances.
The race and award ceremony were attended by notable figures, including Dr. Peter Tschentscher, First Mayor of Hamburg; Ahmed Alattar, UAE Ambassador to Germany; Faisal Al Rahmani, General Secretary of the Higher Organising Committee for the UAE President’s Cup; and Ahmed Al Samarrai, President of the German Arabian Horse Association.
The trophy was awarded to Nasser Hilal Al Alawi, representing the owner, alongside the winning trainer and jockey, in front of an enthusiastic crowd.
Faisal Al Rahmani commented on the occasion: “We are incredibly proud of the success in Hamburg. The excellent organisation, enthusiastic turnout, and competitive field reflect the growing global influence of UAE-led Arabian horse racing — a vision championed by His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed.”
He added, “We congratulate Helal Alalawi on HM Alchahine’s stellar performances in both Germany and Italy. These victories demonstrate the strength and consistency of UAE-owned horses on the international stage. The UAE President’s Cup remains a cultural bridge, connecting global audiences to the rich heritage and noble traditions of Purebred Arabian horses.”
