emirates7 - The combined market value of publicly traded companies in South Korea saw a significant increase in the second quarter compared to the previous three months, fueled by a stock market rally, a corporate tracker reported on Monday.

According to the Korea CXO Institute, the total market capitalization of 2,758 firms listed on South Korea's primary and secondary stock exchanges reached 2,856 trillion won (approximately US$2.09 trillion) by the end of June. This marks a 22.9 percent jump—or 532 trillion won—from the previous quarter.

During this period, 2,066 companies, or 74.9 percent, recorded growth in their market capitalization. In contrast, 599 firms (21.7 percent) saw a decline, while the remaining 93 (3.4 percent) either maintained their valuation or were newly listed.

In comparison, the first quarter saw more than 60 percent of listed firms suffer a in market value, according to Yonhap News Agency.

By the end of June, the number of companies with a market value exceeding 1 trillion won had risen to 284, an increase of 42 from the previous quarter. Meanwhile, the number of firms valued at over 10 trillion won climbed to 55, up from 43.
