Abu Dhabi to host UAE-EU, GCC-EU parliamentary meetings

emirates7 - Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC), is set to convene a special UAE–European parliamentary session on Monday.

Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament, will attend the event — marking her first official visit to the Gulf region as head of the European Parliament. This historic visit highlights the strength of the strategic relationship and the expanding partnership between the UAE and the European Union.

Her visit comes in response to an official invitation from the FNC Speaker and aligns with a key phase in UAE–EU relations, particularly following the initiation of Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) negotiations. The parliamentary session will reinforce both sides' commitment to enhancing diplomatic engagement and fostering cooperation in areas such as economic growth and sustainable development.

The session will feature a formal dialogue between members of the FNC and the European Parliament, focusing on deepening parliamentary collaboration and aligning viewpoints on pressing regional and global matters.

Held at the FNC’s Zayed Hall in Abu Dhabi, the session will be attended by senior ministers, high-ranking officials, and representatives from EU missions accredited in the UAE.

In addition, the FNC will host the 18th regular meeting of the heads of GCC Shura, Representatives, National, and Ummah Councils. Chaired by Ghobash, the meeting will include discussions with Metsola to further enhance GCC–EU parliamentary relations.
