Ship collision off UAE coast due to navigational misjudgment: Ministry of Energy

emirates7 - The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI) reported that initial findings suggest the accidental collision between two ships in the Sea of Oman, about 24 nautical miles off the UAE coast, was caused by a navigational error by one of the vessels.

According to the ministry’s statement, at 1:30 am on Tuesday, 17th June 2025, authorities received a report of the collision involving an oil tanker named ADALYNN, registered under the flag of Antigua and Barbuda, and a cargo ship called Front Eagle, flying the flag of the Republic of Liberia.

The ministry noted that the incident caused minor surface damage to the outer hulls of both vessels, a small oil spill, and a fire in the fuel tank of one ship. Rescue teams promptly responded and successfully extinguished the fire. Fortunately, no crew members on either ship were injured.

A technical investigation is currently underway in collaboration with international organizations, ensuring full transparency and adherence to the highest global maritime standards.

The ministry commended the swift and effective response of the rescue teams. The crew of 24 from the oil tanker ADALYNN were safely evacuated and transported to Khor Fakkan Port by Coast Guard-operated search and rescue boats and other relevant maritime authorities.

The ministry emphasized its ongoing monitoring and assessment of the situation to maintain navigational safety and protect the marine environment, praising the strong institutional coordination and readiness to manage emergencies with professionalism and efficiency.
