Beijing to host world's first humanoid robot games

emirates7 - Beijing is set to host the inaugural World Humanoid Robot Games from August 15 to 17, 2025, city officials announced on Wednesday, highlighting a major step forward in applying robotics to real-world environments.

As reported by China Daily, the event will be held as part of the 2025 World Robot Conference and will be the first international competition solely dedicated to humanoid robots.

Organizers revealed that the games will consist of 19 events grouped into three primary categories: athletic contests, performance displays, and scenario-based challenges. These events aim to evaluate the robots' physical agility, coordination, and practical capabilities.

Inspired by conventional human sports, the athletic segment will include races, long jump, gymnastics, and small-team soccer. The performance category will showcase individual and group robot dance routines. The scenario-based challenges are designed to mirror real-life tasks in settings such as hospitals, factories, and hotels—featuring activities like drug sorting, material handling, and concierge services.

In addition, three supplementary events featuring non-humanoid robots playing basketball, table tennis, and badminton will provide a fun and engaging aspect to the competition.

According to organizers, the event aims to spotlight cutting-edge developments in robotics, encourage everyday applications of robotic technologies, and drive innovation in areas such as AI, mechanical systems, and sensor technology.
