IPL 2025: Punjab rope in Mitch Owen as Glenn Maxwell's replacement

emirates7 - Punjab Kings (PBKS) have signed Australian all-rounder Mitch Owen as a replacement for Glenn Maxwell, who has been ruled out of the remainder of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) due to a broken finger.

Owen, hailing from Tasmania, has played 34 T20 matches, scoring 646 runs, which includes two centuries and a highest score of 108. He has also taken 10 wickets in T20s.

"The Punjab Kings have recruited all-rounder Mitch Owen to replace Glenn Maxwell, who will miss the rest of the IPL 2025 with a broken finger," confirmed the IPL.

Ahead of their match against the Lucknow Super Giants, assistant coach Brad Haddin expressed his satisfaction with the team’s younger players stepping up, saying, "Our young players are really starting to their potential, and that’s been the most encouraging part. While the experience of our senior players will be crucial in these high-pressure situations, it’s the emerging talent that’s providing us with significant depth."

Punjab Kings are currently in second place on the IPL points table. Haddin emphasized, "It's all about excitement for us at this stage. We want to be at our best as the tournament progresses. If you look at our recent performances, we’re improving with every game."

"We were very precise with the bat in the last match, and our goal is consistent improvement as we head into the final stages of the tournament," he added.
