UAE participates in first China-GCC Forum on Peaceful Use of Nuclear Technology

emirates7 - The UAE reaffirmed its dedication to peaceful nuclear energy, global cooperation, and climate action by actively participating in the inaugural China-GCC Forum on the Peaceful Use of Nuclear Technology, held in Chengdu. The forum, under the theme "Atoms for a Better Home," brings together high-ranking officials, regulators, and energy experts from China and the GCC to foster strategic collaboration in nuclear science and technology.

During the UAE’s national statement, Rashid Al Falahi, the Government Affairs and International Cooperation Manager at the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR), underscored the country's long-standing, trust-based strategic partnership with China, built on shared values and a mutual vision for development driven by innovation.

The statement also emphasized the UAE’s robust regulatory and operational framework for nuclear energy, positioning the nation as a leader in the peaceful use of nuclear technology within the Arab world.

At the forum, the UAE delegation participated in several high-level technical visits to Chinese nuclear facilities, including a state-of-the-art fusion research center, the Chengdu Gaotong Isotope Company, and others. They also visited the ACP100 Small Modular Reactor (SMR) site, a symbol of China’s advanced nuclear technology innovation, and held discussions about potential cooperation in nuclear energy systems deployment.

The UAE’s nuclear collaboration with China dates back to 2018 when FANR signed a Memorandum of Understanding with China’s National Nuclear Safety Administration, establishing a foundation for cooperation in nuclear safety, emergency preparedness, and regulatory alignment.

As the forum progresses, the UAE reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its collaboration with China and other GCC countries across the nuclear sector, from policymaking and education to safety standards and advanced technologies. The UAE continues to advocate for peaceful nuclear development as a key element in energy transition and global climate action.
