Racing for UAE Team Emirates-XRG, the Slovenian star exacted revenge for his second-place finish at the Amstel Gold Race just days earlier. He launched a decisive attack with 500 meters remaining on the iconic Mur de Huy, breaking away from the field while still seated and crossing the line around 10 seconds ahead of his nearest rival.

The world champion timed his move perfectly at the corner named after Belgian legend Claude Criquielion—himself a two-time winner—and emulated Criquielion’s success by taking the win while wearing the rainbow jersey.

Kévin Vauquelin of Arkéa-B&B Hotels took second place, while Tom Pidcock of Q36.5 Pro Cycling rounded out the podium, finishing 12 seconds behind the winner.

As with last year’s edition, the race was marred by relentless Belgian weather, with cold temperatures, strong winds, and rain hammering the peloton throughout the day. Riders were forced to battle the elements in rain gear until the very end.
