Girl is first British child born from womb transplant

emirates7 - A baby girl has made history as the first child in the UK to be born following a womb transplant.

Grace Davidson, 36, underwent the country's first womb transplant in 2023, receiving the uterus from her older sister, Amy. Two years later, she has now become the first woman in the UK to give birth as a result of the groundbreaking procedure.

This milestone brings new hope to thousands of women across Britain who are unable to conceive due to a rare condition that prevents the womb from developing.

The baby, named Amy Isabel in honour of her aunt and one of the surgeons involved in advancing the technique, was delivered via a planned caesarean section on February 27 at Queen Charlotte’s and Chelsea Hospital in London.

Grace and her husband Angus, 37, who live in north London, shared their amazement at holding their newborn daughter for the first time.

“We’ve been given the most incredible gift,” said Grace. “It was almost unbelievable — I knew she was ours, but it felt surreal.”
