emirates7 - In his role as Ruler of Abu Dhabi, President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has enacted a law restructuring the General Administration of Abu Dhabi Customs.
According to the new legislation, the General Administration of Abu Dhabi Customs operates under the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development as an independent legal entity. It is tasked with formulating general policies and strategic plans for customs operations in the emirate, facilitating trade flow, ensuring adherence to customs regulations, and safeguarding society from unlawful activities.
The administration is responsible for overseeing and managing customs offices across Abu Dhabi, executing customs policies, recommending the establishment or closure of customs checkpoints, and coordinating with relevant authorities to regulate, prohibit, or restrict the import, export, and transit of specific goods.
Additionally, its key functions include inspecting and assessing authorized goods, collecting customs duties, taxes, and associated fees, as well as supervising free zones, free markets, and customs warehouses in accordance with applicable regulations.
The administration also plays a crucial role in streamlining the movement of goods and optimizing logistics across all customs ports and free zones in the emirate. It regulates customs clearance procedures by issuing necessary permits and guidelines and monitors the activities of customs brokers.
To combat smuggling and customs-related offenses, the administration collaborates with relevant authorities to investigate, detect, and prevent violations, enforcing legal measures against offenders.
Furthermore, it manages conciliation settlements, oversees the sale of seized, abandoned, and confiscated goods, and implements customs exemptions as per established regulations.
