emirates7 - The Friends of Cancer Patients (FOCP), a non-profit organisation based in the UAE, has launched its annual Zakat campaign to raise funds and donations aimed at offering both financial and emotional support to individuals battling cancer.
Operating under the theme "Togetherness Conquers," the campaign strives to ease the financial strain associated with cancer treatment, helping patients and their families while positively impacting their physical, emotional, and social well-being.
The initiative encourages members of society to come together in the fight against cancer. It is backed by a religious ruling from the Permanent Fatwa Committee in Sharjah, which permits the use of Zakat contributions to assist financially struggling cancer patients who cannot afford treatment.
Aisha Al Mulla, Director of FOCP, highlighted the significance of community unity and compassion in supporting cancer patients. She noted that the Zakat campaign remains one of the organisation’s most important annual initiatives, aimed at alleviating suffering and instilling hope among those affected.
Al Mulla emphasised that even the smallest donations can have a meaningful impact on patients' lives, reducing their hardship and offering them hope for recovery. She reiterated that collective efforts from the community play a crucial role in providing cancer patients with the strength and resilience needed to overcome the disease.
In 2024, FOCP allocated over AED 5.7 million to support the treatment of 98 cancer patients, offering both financial and emotional aid to them and their families.
