Messi: move to Inter Miami driven by unhappy spell at PSG

emirates7 - Lionel Messi revealed that his decision to join Major League Soccer's Inter Miami as a free agent was influenced by his difficult time at Paris Saint-Germain, a period he admitted "wasn't enjoyable." The 37-year-old, who won two Ligue 1 titles and a French Super Cup during his two years at PSG, parted ways with the club in 2023.

In an Apple Music interview on Friday, Messi explained that joining Inter Miami was a result of his struggles in Paris. "It was a decision I had to make because of my last years in Paris," he said, adding that he was unhappy with the day-to-day routine, training sessions, and games during his time at PSG.

After spending most of his career at Barcelona, where he won numerous titles including 10 La Liga championships, four Champions Leagues, and three Club World Cups, Messi was forced to leave in 2021 due to financial constraints at the club. He signed a two-year contract with PSG.

Despite leading Argentina to World Cup victory in 2022, Messi faced criticism from PSG fans after their disappointing Champions League campaign, and he was suspended for an unauthorized trip to Saudi Arabia.

Turning down a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia, Messi expressed his commitment to helping MLS grow and succeed. "MLS has matured and continues to grow," he said, hoping that other clubs would follow Inter Miami’s example to help boost the competition.
