emirates7 - As part of its preparations for Ramadan, Sharjah has inaugurated several new mosques across the emirate. The Sharjah Department of Islamic Affairs announced that these newly opened mosques, distributed across various districts, collectively provide space for more than 2,000 worshippers.
“This initiative is part of a larger plan to open 20 new mosques in different areas of Sharjah in time for Ramadan,” said Abdullah Al Sabousi, Chairman of the Sharjah Department of Islamic Affairs. “It aligns with our long-term strategy to expand the emirate’s network of mosques, ensuring all communities have convenient access to places of worship.”
He emphasized that the project aims to offer residents and visitors easily accessible prayer spaces while fostering a serene and spiritual environment throughout the holy month.
##Locations of the New Mosques
Among the newly inaugurated mosques is Hosn Al Khatimah Mosque in Al Barashi. Built in a modern Islamic architectural style, this mosque was funded by a philanthropist and spans 4,072 square meters. It features a main prayer hall and supporting facilities, accommodating up to 400 worshippers, including 80 spaces designated for women.
In Kalba, two new mosques have been constructed to meet the needs of the growing worshipper population:
Al Baraa Bin Aws Mosque in Al Saf, built in a traditional Islamic architectural style on a 2,601-square-meter plot, can accommodate 850 worshippers, including 100 spaces for women.
Dhat Al Nitaqain Mosque in Al Ghail, which incorporates Islamic and Fatimid architectural influences, spans 1,747 square meters and provides space for 350 worshippers, including 50 spaces for women.
Other newly opened mosques include:
Al Sahabi Al Tufail bin Malik Mosque in Al Dhaid’s Suhaila Three area, covering 2,163 square meters, with a capacity for 600 worshippers, including 50 spaces for women.
Umm Habib bint Al Awwam Mosque in Khor Fakkan’s Al Haray district, built on a 1,930-square-meter plot, accommodating 400 worshippers, with 50 spaces allocated for women.
Al Sahabi Salim bin Amr Mosque in Al Hamriyah, located within the Ajmal Makan residential complex, designed to host 250 worshippers.
Last year, the department successfully opened 40 mosques, including 30 before Ramadan and an additional 10 in the later months of the year.
