UAE Tour Women: Lorena Wiebes wins stage 2

emirates7 - Lorena Wiebes (SD Worx-Protime) powered to victory in the explosive second stage of the 2025 UAE Tour Women, edging out Lily Williams (Human Powered Health) and Lara Gillespie (UAE Team ADQ) in a race heavily influenced by crosswinds.

Wiebes, alongside Gillespie, Williams, Elisa Longo Borghini, and Borghini's UAE Team ADQ teammate Karlijn Swinkels, formed a decisive five-rider breakaway within the first few kilometers. The group rode strongly at the front all day, establishing an echelon early on and successfully fending off the chasing peloton.

Most of the general classification contenders found themselves in the pursuing group, which crossed the finish line 1:26 behind the leading quintet, whittled down to just 30 riders.

With back-to-back stage wins, Wiebes is likely to retain the leader’s jersey. However, with a summit finish looming tomorrow, Borghini is now well-positioned as the frontrunner for the overall title.

The stage winners were celebrated by Aref Hamad Al Awani, Secretary-General of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, and Mubarak Abdullah Al Mansouri, Executive Director of Support Services at the Ruler’s Representative Court in Al Dhafra.
