5th Sharjah Award for Arabic Poetry Criticism launches its title

emirates7 - The General Secretariat of the Sharjah Award for Arabic Poetry Criticism has chosen *Cultural and Artistic Patterns in Contemporary Arabic Poetry* as the theme for the award’s fifth edition. Held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, the award is organized by the Department of Cultural Affairs at the Department of Culture in Sharjah.

This decision was made during a meeting of the General Secretariat of the Department of Culture, during which the title for the latest edition was finalized, and submissions were officially opened for writers, critics, and researchers interested in Arabic poetry criticism, in accordance with the award’s terms and conditions.

Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim Al Qaseer, Director of the Cultural Affairs Department and Secretary-General of the Sharjah Award for Arabic Poetry Criticism, emphasized that the cultural vision of H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi has significantly contributed to strengthening the field of poetry criticism in the Arab world. He highlighted that the latest edition focuses on an engaging and evolving critical theme, reinforcing the award’s mission to foster a cultural landscape where Arabic poetry is thoroughly examined by Arab critics. Additionally, he noted that the award has contributed to the creation of a specialized critical library, given the extensive participation it receives with each successive edition.

Al Qaseer further explained that the newly selected theme opens up a broad intellectual space for critics, encouraging research into the cultural and artistic dimensions of contemporary Arabic poetry. This approach aims to inspire fresh perspectives and innovative critical studies within the field.

He also stated that the Department of Cultural Affairs would actively promote the award by engaging universities, academics, and experts in literary criticism across the Arab world. Moreover, poetry houses in the region will host introductory seminars to encourage wider participation from Arab critics.

The award is part of broader efforts to support Arabic poetry and stimulate scholarly engagement with the poetic experience, ultimately enriching the Arab literary and creative landscape.

Winners of the award will receive financial prizes, with the first-place recipient awarded AED 100,000, the second-place winner receiving AED 75,000, and the third-place winner earning AED 50,000.
