emirates7 - The Moreeb Dune area in Liwa is gearing up to host the Liwa Drift Race on Friday as part of the Liwa International Festival 2025, a premier winter destination.
This annual festival draws car and drift enthusiasts from around the world, offering a variety of exhilarating sports events. The drift race, set to take place over two days—Friday and Saturday—is among the festival’s most anticipated highlights.
The event will feature top-tier professional and amateur drivers demonstrating their expertise in vehicle control and executing daring drift maneuvers on the Moreeb Dune Drift Track, a purpose-built course designed to test driving skills.
Drift car racing, a globally celebrated motorsport with numerous local and international championships, first debuted at the Liwa Festival in 2018 and has since become a hallmark of the event.
The competition is divided into two categories: the "Drift Pro" category, reserved for professional drivers to ensure high-level competition, and a separate category for amateur drivers, offering enthusiasts a chance to participate.
Event rules, including vehicle specifications, entry protocols, and participation guidelines, have been outlined by the judging committee through the club's mobile application.
The competition will kick off at 6:00 pm tomorrow, beginning with free trials and practice sessions for participants, followed by the official start of the race. Finalists will vie for top prizes during the second and final day of the event.
Judging will be based on a systematic scoring method to evaluate and rank performances, culminating in the selection of the winners.
Mohammed Al-Mishghouni, Vice Chairman of the Liwa Sports Club, commented, “We have worked hard to a world-class track and uphold the highest safety standards to ensure a secure and enjoyable experience for both participants and spectators. This event celebrates sportsmanship and showcases local and international talent. We look forward to witnessing exceptional performances this year.”
