WHO affiliate to observe annual commemoration day in traditional medicine in India

emirates7 - The World Health Organization’s (WHO) primary center in India for traditional medicine will annually observe January 10 as “Ayush Medical Coding and Records Day” starting next year.

This decision was announced during the 10th World Ayurveda Congress held in Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand, India.

The term "Ayush" represents the Indian Ministry of Ayush, which focuses on promoting healthy lifestyles through traditional practices such as yoga and naturopathy, as well as ancient medical systems like Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy.

The Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Ayush, has been entrusted with organizing the annual observance. This initiative was confirmed in a press release by the Press Information Bureau of the Indian government.

The WHO’s key collaborative center in India for traditional medicine research, the National Institute of Indian Medical Heritage (NIIMH) in Hyderabad, will partner with CCRAS to develop a roadmap for building capacity and implementing international classifications for health interventions in traditional medicine.

The press release highlighted that these initiatives reflect the commitment of WHO Collaboration Centres, CCRAS, NIIMH, and the Ministry of Ayush to advance the standardization and global integration of ancient medical systems. It also emphasized the strengthening of collaboration between India and WHO to promote evidence-based traditional medicine practices.
