GITEX hub for leveraging technology to tackle cyber threats, says US expert

emirates7 - Diane M. Janosek, CEO of Janos, emphasized the significance of GITEX Global 2024 in Dubai as a premier international forum that brings together government leaders and over 6,000 tech companies from around the world. Speaking to the Emirates News Agency (WAM) during the event, Dr. Janosek called for enhanced collaboration in the fields of artificial intelligence and cybersecurity to address the escalating threat of cyberattacks.

Drawing on her extensive background, which includes legal, policy, and executive positions at the National Security Agency, the White House, and the Pentagon, Dr. Janosek highlighted the critical role of cybersecurity, especially as cyberattacks have increased by 200%. She noted that the Middle East has experienced a sharp rise in cyber threats over the past two years.

Dr. Janosek pointed out that within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), 21% of the targeted attacks are aimed at government entities, while the remaining 79% are directed towards critical infrastructure sectors such as energy, logistics, and manufacturing.

With three decades of experience in national security, she explained that her focus on cybersecurity has grown substantially over the last ten years. During her participation in what she described as "the world's largest tech event," Dr. Janosek's agenda focused on raising awareness about closing security gaps, combating cyber threats, defending against ransomware, and ensuring the development of secure software.

Looking ahead to 2025, she discussed the future of cybersecurity and stressed the need to build stronger ties between US and Middle Eastern business leaders. She believes that fostering these partnerships will help facilitate the exchange of ideas, promote collaborations, and open up new market opportunities through Dubai.
