emirates7 - Abu Dhabi Airports has announced the early reopening of Zayed International Airport’s Northern Runway (13L/31R), now fully operational for arrivals and departures following a successful rehabilitation project.
The project included reinforcing and resurfacing the runway with 210,000 tonnes of asphalt for durability, along with installing advanced technologies such as a redundant ground visibility monitoring system for safety, a state-of-the-art Instrument Landing System (ILS) for precision, and replacing over 1,200 halogen airfield lights with energy-efficient LED technology to enhance sustainability.
These upgrades aim to improve operational safety and efficiency, particularly during adverse weather conditions.
