World Green Economy Summit Highlights Green Hydrogen as a Catalyst for a Sustainable Future
emirates7 - Green hydrogen, hailed as the fuel of the future, is emerging as a leading clean energy source poised to transform the global energy landscape. The World Green Economy Summit (WGES) will explore this potential, focusing on the latest developments in renewable and clean energy, particularly in enhancing innovation and research in energy storage technologies.

Scheduled for October 2-3, 2024, the 10th WGES will be held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai. The summit is organized by the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), and the World Green Economy Organisation (WGEO).

The summit will address critical topics, including decarbonization and net-zero goals, clean energy advancements, climate finance, circular economy, policy and regulatory frameworks, technological solutions for climate change, youth engagement in climate issues, and food and water sustainability.

“Global interest in investing in clean and renewable energy sources, including green hydrogen, is on the rise, particularly as the costs of renewable energy production decline. The UAE is at the forefront of this energy transition, leveraging innovation and research to expand the use of green energy. We look forward to advancing green energy at the 10th World Green Economy Summit, laying the groundwork for a just energy transition to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals 2030,” said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, MD & CEO of DEWA, and Chairman of WGEO.

Waleed bin Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development and Excellence at DEWA, highlighted the organization’s pioneering Green Hydrogen Project at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park in Dubai. This project is the first of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa, producing green hydrogen using solar power, storing it, and converting it into electrical energy, with applications in transportation and industry. This initiative exemplifies DEWA’s commitment to supporting the UAE's vision for a green economy.
