The biennial conference, themed “Join the revolution! Giving every child good books,” gathers global participants dedicated to ensuring children and young people have access to high-quality literature.
The UAEBBY delegation comprises Advisory Committee members, the board’s working team, and a group of illustrators and authors specializing in children's and young adult literature. They are enthusiastic about showcasing the UAE’s advancements in children's literature and sharing their innovative strategies for promoting reading among young audiences worldwide. The delegation will also engage in discussions with IBBY members, exchanging insights on effective methods to inspire more children to read.
Al Aqroubi emphasized that their participation aligns with the UAE’s vision of nurturing children’s cultural development, facilitating access to books, and fostering cross-cultural communication. The aim is to collaborate with IBBY members and children's book experts to develop global initiatives that promote reading among young people and enhance the children’s book industry in the UAE and the Arab world.
She noted that the conference is a key international event for collaboration, idea-sharing, and creating programs to encourage reading among children and young people worldwide. This year, the UAE Board is eager to share its experiences, learn from others, and discuss ways to make books more accessible to young readers.
Supported by the Italian Centre for Books and Reading of the Italian Ministry of Culture, the Friuli-Venezia Giulia Region, and the Municipality of Trieste, the conference will feature talks, workshops, and discussions on various topics, as well as exhibitions and the announcement of major awards, including the Hans Christian Andersen Awards and the IBBY Honour List.
