UAE’s 'DOCKTOUR ' project converts shipping containers into mobile clinics serving Africa

emirates7 - The DOCKTOUR project, a joint venture between AD Ports Group and Burjeel Holdings, was introduced at the “Make it in the Emirates” forum as a groundbreaking initiative aimed at improving healthcare access in remote African regions. The project involves repurposing shipping containers into mobile medical units to overcome logistical barriers in underserved areas, particularly where the UAE runs major humanitarian programs.

Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil, Founder and Chairman of Burjeel Holdings, told Emirates News Agency (WAM) that the initiative is designed to bridge healthcare gaps in hard-to-reach and crisis-hit communities, especially in Sub-Saharan Africa. He noted that DOCKTOUR not only enhances healthcare access but also boosts local economies by creating job opportunities for local professionals.

Vayalil hailed DOCKTOUR as an innovative healthcare delivery model and praised the “Make it in the Emirates” platform for encouraging local innovation and value creation. He also discussed Burjeel’s advancements in pharmaceutical production, highlighting the company’s move into cutting-edge cancer treatments such as CAR T-cell immunotherapy.

Imran Khoury, a Board Member at Burjeel Holdings, expressed pride in the group’s role in strengthening the UAE’s industrial landscape. He emphasized the symbolic importance of Emirati-manufactured medical containers serving offshore regions and reiterated the group's commitment to expanding healthcare services throughout Africa, including in North Africa.

Khoury further described the partnership with AD Ports Group, part of the ADNOC network, as a strategic effort to enhance mobile healthcare capabilities. He said the collaboration represents a sophisticated integration of healthcare and logistics, positioning the UAE as a global leader in humanitarian innovation and development solutions.
