Oman faces extreme heatwave as temperatures near 50°C

emirates7 - Oman is currently grappling with intense heatwaves, with temperatures climbing to near-record levels across the country.

On Sunday, Qurayat province recorded a blistering 48.6°C, edging close to the critical 50°C threshold. Al Ashkarah followed with 47.2°C, Sur reached 46.4°C, and Awabi reported 45.6°C.

The Oman Meteorology Department has issued warnings of further temperature increases, particularly in the governorates of North and South Batinah, Dhahirah, North Sharqiyah, and Al Wusta.

Healthcare experts are urging the public to remain indoors during the hottest parts of the day and to avoid direct sunlight.

Authorities in the UAE, meanwhile, have noted improvements in environmental conditions, reporting cleaner air and safer water, with no significant violations in one of its emirates.

Medical professionals also emphasize the importance of staying hydrated and replenishing electrolytes to prevent heat-related health issues.

In response to the extreme temperatures, Oman has enforced a midday outdoor work ban for construction and open-air labor from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. during the months of June through August. Companies that breach this rule will face penalties.

The Meteorology Department’s Sunday forecast called for mostly clear skies in most regions, with possible formation of low clouds and fog late at night and early morning over parts of Dhofar, South Sharqiyah, and Al Wusta.
