Mountain fire spreads toward villages in Daegu, Korea

emirates7 - A wildfire broke out on Mount Hamji in Daegu, South Korea, on Monday and began advancing toward nearby villages, prompting authorities to issue the second-highest firefighting alert.

Located about 230 kilometers southeast of Seoul, the fire led forest officials to initiate a Level 1 wildfire response, mobilizing 19 helicopters, 38 pieces of equipment, and 165 personnel.

As strong winds intensified the blaze, the response level was upgraded to Level 2 on the country’s three-tier emergency scale.

Although no casualties have been reported, residents in surrounding areas have been ordered to evacuate to local elementary schools.
