emirates7 - An earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale struck near the eastern coast of Japan’s northern island of Hokkaido on Thursday morning, according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC).

The quake occurred at 08:13 local time at a depth of 54 kilometres. No immediate reports of casualties or damage were issued.
