The UAE has announced revised Friday timing for government schools effective next Friday (January 9). This comes after a change in the Friday prayer schedule.
Government schools will follow these Friday timings:
Kindergarten
8am – 11.30am
Cycle 1 (two schedules)
7.10am – 10.30am
8am – 11.30am
Cycles 2 and 3
Boys: 7.10am – 10.30am
Girls: 8am – 11.30am
In Dubai, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) had earlier announced that all private schools and early childhood centres operating within private schools must end the school day no later than 11.30am on Fridays. This directive will also take effect from January 9, 2026.
As previously reported by Khaleej Times, schools across Dubai and the wider UAE had already begun considering early dismissal or revised timetables to align with the updated prayer time.
The move follows the nationwide adjustment of the Friday prayer time to 12.45pm, and consultations between the education regulator and educational institutions.
For students in Grade 6 (Year 7) and above, schools may seek approval to offer online learning on Fridays, subject to parental consultation and KHDA approval.
