Rory McIlroy returns to defend DP World Tour Championship

emirates7 - Grand Slam winner and five-time Major Champion Rory McIlroy is set to return to Jumeirah Golf Estates from November 13th to 16th to defend his title at the DP World Tour Championship, the final Rolex Series event of the season.

The Northern Irish golfer put on a display of precision and shot-making to win his third DP World Tour Championship in 2024, clinching a record-tying sixth Race to Dubai title. This achievement puts him alongside the legendary Seve Ballesteros and further solidifies his legacy as one of the most accomplished players in the Tour’s history.

Now 36, McIlroy shares second place for the most Race to Dubai titles and is just two wins shy of Colin Montgomerie’s record. He’s aiming to claim yet another European Number One title to add to his decorated career.

McIlroy, who has already claimed four other victories in Dubai, currently leads the Race to Dubai Rankings by 1,109.51 points over Tyrrell Hatton. He’ll spend two weeks competing in the UAE, having confirmed his participation in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship — the opening event of the DP World Tour Play-Offs. His qualification for the final two events comes off the back of a standout season that includes a memorable win at the Masters, a fourth-place finish at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, a runner-up tie at the Genesis Scottish Open, and a shared seventh at The 153rd Open Championship at Royal Portrush.

“Dubai has always held a special place in my heart,” said McIlroy. “Finishing the season by winning both the DP World Tour Championship and the Race to Dubai last year was unforgettable. Matching Seve’s record made it even more meaningful. I’ve had a strong season so far and I’m excited to end it on a high note in front of the fans at Jumeirah Golf Estates.”
