Japan's farm exports rise 16% in H1, set record

emirates7 - Japan’s exports of agricultural, fisheries, and forestry products reached a record 809.7 billion yen (around $5.5 billion) in the first half of 2025, marking a 15.5% increase compared to the same period last year, the government announced on Monday.

The sharp rise was largely driven by growing sales in the United States. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the surge was likely supported by the expanding presence of Japanese restaurants abroad and a growing global appetite for Japanese cuisine, fueled in part by the rise in foreign tourism. Additionally, overseas supermarkets have been stocking more Japanese food products.

This record-breaking growth supports the government’s broader goal of raising Japan’s agricultural and seafood exports to 2 trillion yen by the end of 2025. In 2024, total exports rose 3.6% year-on-year to a record 1.51 trillion yen, according to Kyodo News.
