Russia:120 aftershocks registered in Kamchatka in past 24 hours

emirates7 - Around 120 aftershocks have been recorded in Russia’s Far Eastern Kamchatka Peninsula within the past 24 hours following the powerful earthquake that struck on Wednesday, July 30, according to the Russian News Agency (TASS).

The regional branch of the Russian Emergencies Ministry reported that “approximately 120 aftershocks ranging in magnitude from 3.5 to 6.7 were detected over the past day. In inhabited areas, several were felt as tremors with magnitudes between 2 and 5.”

The main quake, which occurred off Kamchatka’s coast early Wednesday morning, registered a magnitude of 8.8—making it the strongest seismic event in the region since 1952, according to officials.
