Sara Arjun: From child star to leading lady in Ranveer Singh's 'Dhurandhar'

emirates7 - The film's first look dropped on July 6—coinciding with Singh’s 40th birthday—and it features a star-studded cast including Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, Akshaye Khanna, and Arjun Rampal. Yet, it was the film’s female lead who truly caught everyone's attention: newcomer Sara Arjun.

Though this will mark Sara’s official debut in Bollywood, she’s far from new to the screen. The 20-year-old actress began her career in the industry at just 18 months old, appearing in commercials. She is the daughter of actor Raj Arjun and dance instructor Sanya Arjun, and has built an impressive résumé in regional cinema, particularly in the South.

One of her most acclaimed roles was in the Tamil film Deiva Thirumagal, where she starred alongside actor Vikram. Sara portrayed Nila, the daughter of a man with an intellectual disability, in a heartfelt performance that won audience admiration. The film also featured Anushka Shetty, Amala Paul, Nassar, and Santhanam.

More recently, she appeared in Mani Ratnam’s epic historical drama Ponniyin Selvan, a two-part blockbuster that boasted a stellar ensemble cast including Aishwarya Rai, Ravi Mohan, Karthi, and Trisha Krishnan.

What’s drawn particular attention in Dhurandhar is the notable age gap between Sara and her co-star Ranveer Singh. At 20, Sara is playing the romantic lead opposite the 40-year-old Singh. The pairing has sparked some conversation online—with mixed reactions. Some viewers have raised eyebrows at the age difference, while others pointed out that large on-screen age gaps have long been a staple in Bollywood.

Despite the buzz, the film has generated strong excitement among fans. One person commented, “Can’t wait for this one!” while another praised Singh, writing, “Your birthday gift to your fans is indeed an amazing one! Love the look. Eagerly waiting for it.”

With its high-profile cast and gripping action-thriller premise, Dhurandhar is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated Bollywood releases of the year.
