Dubai to host prestigious Sibos 2029 global banking conference

emirates7 - Dubai has been selected to host Sibos 2029, the premier annual conference and exhibition organized by the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (SWIFT), as announced by the UAE Banks Federation (UBF).

Sibos is recognized as one of the world’s most influential gatherings for the financial industry, attracting thousands of senior executives, decision-makers, tech providers, and thought leaders. The event offers a platform for exchanging insights and best practices. SWIFT, the organizer, serves over 11,000 financial institutions and companies in more than 200 countries and territories, facilitating secure and reliable financial messaging to boost trade and transactions.

The UAE made history as the first country in the Middle East and Africa to host Sibos in 2013, and remains the only one from the region to have done so since the event's inception in 1978.

Over the years, Sibos has been hosted in prominent global financial centres such as Singapore, Geneva, Toronto, London, Amsterdam, and Beijing.

Dubai’s selection for the 2029 edition underscores the collaborative efforts of the UBF, Dubai International Financial Centre, Dubai World Trade Centre, and the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism, along with strong backing from the Central Bank of the UAE.

Abdulaziz Al-Ghurair, Chairman of UBF, emphasized that this decision highlights the UAE’s growing stature as a global banking and finance hub. He noted that it also acknowledges the country's strides in digital transformation, innovation in payments, and the development of secure and efficient banking systems in line with the Central Bank’s proactive policies.

Jamal Saleh, UBF Director-General and Chair of the UAE SWIFT User Group Steering Committee, called Sibos 2029 the world’s foremost event in the field of payments — a cornerstone for economic and social development. He praised the Central Bank’s National Payment Systems Strategy (2019) for driving innovation and improving customer experience in the UAE's payment landscape.

Marianne Demarchi, CEO of SWIFT EMEA, expressed enthusiasm about returning to Dubai in 2029, describing it as a key global financial centre with a strategic geographic location — an ideal venue for the dynamic discussions and industry debates that define Sibos each year.
