Borouge to develop AI-powered autonomous operations to accelerate growth

emirates7 - Borouge Plc has announced a partnership with Honeywell to launch a proof of concept for AI-powered autonomous operations, which could transform plant operations across the UAE.

This joint effort marks a major milestone in the petrochemical sector, as it aims to the industry’s first AI-driven control room capable of full-scale, real-time operations—setting a new benchmark for the integration of AI in petrochemicals.

Hazeem Sultan Al Suwaidi, CEO of Borouge, stated: “Our AI, Digitalisation, and Technology (AIDT) transformation programme is redefining operational excellence, innovation, and business outcomes. Through this strategic partnership with global AI leader Honeywell, we’re fast-tracking growth, boosting efficiency, and delivering greater value to our shareholders. This project further strengthens Borouge’s market leadership as we advance our ambitious AIDT roadmap.”

Under the agreement, both Borouge and Honeywell will leverage their expertise in process technology and autonomous systems to explore new applications of Agentic AI and sophisticated machine learning tools.

The proof-of-concept technologies will be implemented to enhance operations at Borouge’s facilities in Ruwais, UAE.

This initiative is a central part of Borouge’s enterprise-wide AIDT programme, which is expected to $575 million in value in 2025. In 2024, the company’s portfolio of over 200 AIDT projects—covering areas such as operations, safety, sales, sustainability, and product innovation—generated $573 million in value.
