emirates7 - His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Sharjah Maritime Academy, presided over the board meeting held Thursday morning at the academy’s headquarters.
During the meeting, the board approved the graduation of 23 students from the academy’s second cohort, who successfully completed their academic studies and practical training to earn bachelor's degrees in their respective fields.
The board also sanctioned the design of a new endowment building—a 929-square-metre residential property—whose proceeds will be dedicated to supporting the academy.
Additionally, the introduction of a new bachelor’s degree in maritime business administration was approved, adding to the academy’s programme offerings. The board ratified the academic regulation manual and approved the establishment of a Strategic Planning Department, aiming to enhance the academy’s international academic recognition.
The board praised recent administrative and academic efforts, particularly improvements in students’ practical training, which is crucial for preparing graduates for top-tier maritime careers.
Various administrative, academic, technical, and social issues were discussed, alongside reviews of periodic reports on the academy’s progress, future plans, and updates from internal committees. Several directives were issued to further raise academic and practical standards.
Dr. Hashim Abdullah bin Sarhan Al Zaabi, Chancellor of the Sharjah Maritime Academy, presented a report highlighting recent achievements in academic and administrative fields and the ongoing execution of the board’s strategic plans.
He also outlined ongoing efforts in curriculum development and continuous programme evaluation to ensure excellence and alignment with the latest industry advancements. The academy is committed to offering innovative programmes and training alongside academic studies.
