emirates7 - The College of Engineering (CEN) at the American University of Sharjah (AUS) has secured renewed accreditation from the Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA) under the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR) for 10 of its graduate programs, valid until October 31, 2031.
The CAA is the official body responsible for licensing higher education institutions and accrediting their academic programs. It collaborates with both local and international authorities to uphold academic standards and improve the educational experience for students in higher education.
The 10 accredited programs include master's degrees in biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, civil engineering, construction management, computer engineering, electrical engineering, engineering systems management, mechanical engineering, and mechatronics engineering, along with the PhD in Engineering Systems Management.
This renewed accreditation coincides with a major upgrade in graduate engineering education at AUS through the launch of CEN 2.0 Graduate—a comprehensive enhancement of all graduate programs within the college. This new structure offers coursework-only tracks for all master’s programs, giving students the option to choose between thesis and non-thesis paths.
To support working professionals, classes are scheduled in the evenings and on weekends. The core and elective courses have been updated to align with global trends and market needs, focusing on areas like artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and sustainability.
Dr. Fadi Aloul, Dean of CEN, stated, “This renewed accreditation validates the strength and strategic focus of our graduate programs, highlighting their alignment with national development goals and global innovation trends. It demonstrates the confidence placed in AUS as a center for advanced engineering education and research excellence. Our rigorous academic programs and industry-relevant curricula prepare future leaders to develop tomorrow’s technologies, infrastructure, and sustainable solutions.”
Looking ahead, CEN plans to introduce two new doctoral programs in Fall 2025—in civil and environmental engineering and in electrical and computer engineering—further enhancing the college’s interdisciplinary and research-focused approach.
The college is home to a dynamic community of over 2,700 students, including 350 graduate students, representing 70 nationalities. Recently, 21 CEN faculty members were recognized among the top 2% of scientists worldwide according to the latest Stanford-Elsevier ranking. Additionally, the college has formed several new partnerships with leading engineering schools to offer students a world-class graduate education experience.
AUS ranks second in the UAE for employer reputation according to the QS World University Rankings 2025, and CEN graduates often join prestigious companies such as Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Schneider Electric, Petrofac, PWC, EY, the UAE Cabinet, the UAE Space Agency, and the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre.
Applications are now open for Fall 2025 admission to all CEN graduate programs. Prospective students are encouraged to apply for competitive graduate assistantships, which provide financial support and valuable practical experience in teaching and research.
