emirates7 - South Korea recorded a current account surplus for the 24th straight month in April, although the surplus shrank compared to March, partly due to the effects of U.S. tariff policies, according to data released by the Bank of Korea on Tuesday.
Yonhap News Agency reported that the surplus amounted to US$5.7 billion in April, down from $9.14 billion the previous month.
Since May 2023, South Korea has consistently posted a monthly current account surplus.
From January to April this year, the cumulative surplus reached $24.96 billion, up from $17.97 billion during the same period in 2023.
In April, the goods account posted a surplus of $8.99 billion, as exports rose 1.9 percent year-on-year to $58.57 billion, while imports declined 5.1 percent to $49.58 billion.
However, the services account recorded a deficit of $2.83 billion for the month, according to the central bank.
