UAE to mark World Environment Day tomorrow

emirates7 - Tomorrow, the UAE will join the global community in observing World Environment Day, which this year focuses on the theme “Beat Plastic Pollution.”

The UAE’s involvement underscores its call for unified international action to tackle plastic waste, while encouraging resource efficiency, biodiversity conservation, and a transition towards a circular economy and sustainable development.

This event coincides with the UAE’s proactive measures to reduce plastic pollution and control its production. The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment has initiated a comprehensive program to monitor plastic waste in the country’s marine and coastal areas, carrying out scientific research and using the results to improve efforts in minimizing plastic pollution.

Supporting this initiative, the government has enacted regulations on single-use products, including a full ban on all single-use plastic bags by 2024 and restrictions on other single-use bags by 2026.

On World Environment Day, the UAE reiterates its dedication to formulating and enforcing policies, strategies, laws, and programs aimed at fostering a sustainable future that harmonizes economic and social development with environmental protection.

The nation continues to advance its sustainability agenda through innovative projects and solutions designed to safeguard natural resources, protect biodiversity, and encourage environmentally responsible behaviors, aligned with its national goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2050.
