emirates7 - The Friends of Diabetes Association, dedicated to promoting health and well-being, has successfully wrapped up its "Superhero" awareness programme, which aimed to educate children and adolescents about diabetes.
The concluding event was held at the Zayed Educational Complex in Al Rahmania, Sharjah, and saw the presence of officials, partners, and programme participants.
Organised in partnership with the Ministry of Education and the Sharjah Private Education Authority, the initiative featured prominent figures such as Khawla Al Haj, President of the Friends of Diabetes Association, and Iman Rashid Saif, Director-General of the Health Promotion Department, along with several school principals.
Now in its 13th edition, the programme spanned the academic year starting from September 2024. It reached students, parents, and teachers across 70 public and private schools in Sharjah, benefiting more than 55,600 students.
To encourage healthy lifestyles, the association held 1,642 school-based workshops, in addition to health fairs, educational field trips, and interactive awareness competitions. Students demonstrated their knowledge of diabetes through 205 creative projects reviewed by a panel of experts.
Khawla Al Haj emphasized that the ‘Superhero’ programme is designed to raise awareness, foster understanding, and offer support for children living with diabetes. The initiative aims to empower young individuals and cultivate a preventative and inclusive culture within schools.
The programme concluded with an awards ceremony, where 51 distinguished students and 12 participating schools were recognised for their exceptional contributions.
