emirates7 - The Sharjah Social Empowerment Foundation (SSEF) recently carried out a series of awareness visits to various government institutions across Sharjah to promote its waqf initiative, Neighbours of the Prophet, and enhance collaborative efforts within the community.
These visits aimed to spotlight the waqf project, which is dedicated to supporting and empowering orphans through sustainable charitable contributions. Meetings held during the visits provided a platform to present the project’s objectives, underscore its role in reviving the waqf tradition, and showcase its alignment with the foundation’s wider efforts to uplift and care for its beneficiaries.
Mona bin Hadda Al Suwaidi, SSEF’s Director-General, expressed satisfaction with the encouraging feedback received from the participating entities. She noted, “The support shown for the Neighbours of the Prophet project demonstrates a shared commitment to fostering strategic partnerships that further our social mission. This initiative is more than a traditional endowment; it reflects the values of the Prophet in caring for orphans."
She added that the project seeks to establish lasting funding streams to secure a dignified life and equal opportunities for orphans. The awareness tour forms part of a broader campaign to introduce the waqf project to the community and encourage both individuals and institutions to contribute to its impactful mission.
Engineer Omar Khalfan Al Shamsi, Chairman of the Department of Municipal Affairs, praised the initiative and emphasized its alignment with Sharjah’s vision for sustainable charitable development. He highlighted the waqf’s potential as a key instrument in supporting vulnerable populations.
Sheikh Engineer Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Qasimi, Director of the Department of Municipal Affairs, voiced his appreciation for the project and pledged the department’s continued support for SSEF’s efforts to empower orphans and ensure their long-term stability.
Hessa Abdullah Al Hammadi, Assistant Secretary-General of the Sharjah Media Council, reaffirmed the council’s commitment to backing impactful community initiatives. She described the project as a reflection of values such as solidarity and a deep humanitarian vision in supporting orphans.
Hamad Sultan Al Owais, Director of Government Communication at the Sharjah Department of Town Planning and Survey, stated that hosting the waqf initiative is part of the department’s commitment to social and charitable efforts that foster compassion and cohesion within society.
Neighbours of the Prophet is one of SSEF’s key waqf projects, aimed at generating sustainable resources to support and empower orphans in Sharjah. The project draws its name from the Prophet Muhammad’s (peace be upon him) hadith: “I and the one who sponsors an orphan will be in Paradise like this,” symbolising closeness to the Prophet through the noble act of orphan sponsorship and care.
