Team Emirates-XRG makes history with second overall at Giro d’Italia

emirates7 - Isaac del Toro crossed the finish line in Rome as part of the peloton, bringing the 2025 Giro d’Italia to a historic conclusion for UAE Team Emirates-XRG. In his debut Giro, the young Mexican secured second place overall, becoming the second-youngest rider ever to finish on the podium and the first from Mexico to win the young rider’s classification.

Del Toro also made history as the first Mexican to don the Maglia Bianca, adding this achievement to a remarkable list he amassed over the three weeks of racing.

The 21-year-old and his UAE Team Emirates-XRG teammates had an outstanding race, culminating in a podium celebration in Rome for their victory in the team classification.

The Emirati team wrapped up the season’s first Grand Tour with two memorable stage wins — one by Juan Ayuso on stage 7, who triumphed on the race’s first summit finish, with Del Toro finishing second on that day, and the other by Del Toro himself during the third week.

Over the course of the next 11 days, Del Toro showed exceptional growth and maturity, inspiring hopes in Mexico for its first-ever Grand Tour victory.

By surpassing Fausto Coppi’s 1940 Giro record, Del Toro became the youngest rider ever to wear the Maglia Rosa for 11 consecutive stages.

With Del Toro on the podium, Brandon McNulty placing ninth overall, the team clinching the team classification, and Filippo Baroncini finishing a strong seventh on stage 21, UAE Team Emirates-XRG can take great pride in their accomplishments from the Grande Partenza in Albania through to the final stage in Rome.
