emirates7 - The World Utilities Congress 2025 is set to officially commence tomorrow at the ADNEC Centre in Abu Dhabi, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council.
Hosted by Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA) and organised by dmg events, this year’s edition revolves around the theme “Innovating for a New Age of Utilities.” Spanning 20,000 square metres, the event will welcome over 18,000 attendees, more than 1,400 delegates, and upwards of 500 expert speakers from around the world, all committed to advancing sustainable growth through renewable energy, technology, and cross-sector cooperation.
The congress programme features top-level speakers and decision-makers tackling some of the most urgent challenges facing global energy and water systems. Distinguished speakers include Suhail Al Mazrouei, UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure; Eng. Mohamed Al Hammadi, Managing Director and CEO of Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC); Francesco La Camera, Director-General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA); Dr. Angela Wilkinson, Secretary-General and CEO of the World Energy Council; and Jasim Thabet, Group CEO and Managing Director of TAQA.
Christopher Hudson, President of dmg events, emphasised the importance of innovation and resilience in today’s utilities sector, stating, “The World Utilities Congress unites global leaders committed to translating today’s challenges into real-world solutions—from renewable integration to climate-resilient systems. It’s about driving collaboration and building the foundation for long-term progress.”
This year’s discussions will focus on how the utilities sector can meet rising electricity demand—fueled by digitalisation, electric transport, and urban expansion—while also scaling renewable energy sources and strengthening the resilience of water infrastructure.
With global electricity usage projected to more than double by 2050, strategic sessions will address how to develop agile, digitally driven power grids, finance major infrastructure projects, and ensure dependable, affordable utility services in an increasingly complex landscape.
The congress will also spotlight transformative technologies such as artificial intelligence, advanced desalination, clean hydrogen, and decentralised energy systems. Alongside these innovations, speakers will explore the policy frameworks and investment strategies required to turn ambition into large-scale implementation.
In support of the UAE’s Year of Community, TAQA will host a special Community Day at the congress, turning the Innovation Hub into a platform for showcasing how the utilities sector empowers individuals and communities. The programme will highlight inclusive, community-led solutions that improve quality of life and reinforce the sector’s vital role in sustainable development.
As the call for cleaner, smarter, and more resilient utility systems grows louder, the World Utilities Congress 2025 underscores the UAE’s leadership as a global hub for sector-wide innovation and transformation.
Through meaningful collaboration across policy, industry, and technology, the congress aims to accelerate the collective action needed to secure a sustainable and equitable future for both energy and water systems.
