emirates7 - The African ambassadors to the UAE hosted a reception in Abu Dhabi to mark Africa Day.
The event was attended by Dr. Maha Barakat, Assistant Minister for Health and Life Sciences at the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with several senior officials, ambassadors from Arab and foreign countries accredited to the UAE, and prominent business leaders.
During his remarks, Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to the UAE, Rashid Sesay—who also serves as the Dean of the African Diplomatic Corps—expressed appreciation for the generous support of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. He also thanked all UAE institutions, especially the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, for their continued support of diplomatic missions.
Ambassador Sesay emphasized the importance of fostering deeper ties and cooperation between Africa and the Arab world. He highlighted that Africa Day is a celebration of the continent’s rich heritage, diverse cultures, and shared unity.
The reception featured vibrant African cultural performances and a fashion displaying traditional clothing from various regions of the continent.
Africa Day is celebrated in honor of the establishment of the Organisation of African Unity, which held its inaugural summit in Addis Ababa in 1963.
