emirates7 - The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) has launched the second edition of the Abu Dhabi Masterpieces Collection: Exhibition-Dossiers, presenting a curated selection of historically significant artworks that reinforce Abu Dhabi’s status as a global cultural hub.
This new installment features a diverse array of important pieces that mark pivotal moments in art history, offering the public a rare opportunity to view and reflect on exceptional masterpieces that deepen our understanding of the arts.
Focused on the preservation and presentation of renowned works, the Abu Dhabi Collection invites both art enthusiasts and scholars to engage with the exhibition and contribute to broader cultural conversations at both national and international levels.
Among the standout works is an 18th-century pair by Jean-Baptiste-Siméon Chardin. Although originally commissioned as a set, the two paintings—Still Life with Musical Instruments, Basket of Fruit and Guitar and Musical Instruments and Parrot—were separated into different collections in 2014. This exhibition marks their first resince that time. These works showcase Chardin’s exceptional ability to depict light, texture, and composition, celebrating music, nature, and the charm of daily life.
Providing a dynamic counterpoint is El Gran Espectaculo (The Nile) by Jean-Michel Basquiat, a vivid triptych created in 1983 at the peak of his artistic journey. The three-panel work explores layered historical narratives through Basquiat’s unique and expressive visual language.
The unveiling of this second exhibition highlights DCT Abu Dhabi’s dedication to preserving cultural heritage and curating a world-class art collection for future generations. Visitors can also join guided tours designed to enhance engagement, offering deeper insights into the artworks and fostering meaningful connections with the collection.
