emirates7 - China's satellite-based navigation and positioning services industry reached an estimated value of 576 billion yuan (approximately US$80 billion) in 2024, reflecting a 7.39% year-on-year increase, according to a white paper released on Sunday.
The 2025 White Paper on the Development of China's Satellite Navigation and Positioning Industries, published by the Global Navigation Satellite System and Location-Based Services Association of China, reported that the combined output of core components—such as chips, equipment, software, data, and infrastructure—reached 170 billion yuan, marking a 5.46% rise compared to the previous year.
As reported by China Daily, roughly 410 million terminal devices equipped with satellite navigation and positioning capabilities were sold across China in 2024. This figure includes around 294 million smartphones and more than 20 million in-vehicle devices.
By the end of 2024, over 2 billion devices—including smartphones and computers—across mainland China were compatible with the Beidou navigation system.
Nearly 1 million people are employed across approximately 20,000 domestic organizations involved in the development and application of Beidou and other satellite-based navigation and positioning technologies, the white paper noted.
Since the year 2000, China has launched 64 Beidou satellites using 47 Long March 3-series rockets from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in Sichuan Province. Currently, over 50 of these satellites remain operational in various orbital configurations.
