emirates7 - Drydocks World has partnered in the launch of the Global Green Shipyard Alliance (GGSA), a new international coalition uniting top shipyards around the world to fast-track the maritime industry’s sustainability transformation.
The GGSA’s core mission is to drive the adoption of clean technologies, elevate environmental performance, and establish consistent ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) standards across member shipyards globally.
As a founding member, Drydocks World will play a key leadership role in guiding the alliance’s strategy while further positioning Dubai as a global center for sustainable maritime services.
Other founding members of the alliance include Astilleros Shipyard Group (Spain), BREDO Dry Docks GmbH (Germany), and IMC Shipyard Services Group (operating in Singapore, China, and Thailand). Collectively, the alliance represents major maritime hubs across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
The initiative comes at a critical time for the maritime industry, which is facing increasing pressure to decarbonize in alignment with international climate targets.
Through collaboration on research, technology development, and scalable innovation, the GGSA aims to deliver actionable solutions—from hybrid propulsion systems and energy-efficient vessel retrofits to digital optimization tools and emissions compliance strategies.
Captain Rado Antolovic, PhD, CEO of Drydocks World, commented:
“The creation of the Global Green Shipyard Alliance represents a unified commitment to advancing decarbonization across the maritime sector. At Drydocks World, we are honored to help lead this initiative and work alongside our global partners to champion cleaner, more efficient shipyard practices.
"This alliance marks a major milestone for the industry and reaffirms our dedication to creating lasting environmental value through technology adoption and collaborative innovation.”
Imran Inamdar, Chief Operating Officer of Drydocks World, added:
“Drydocks World has consistently promoted sustainability and innovation in ship repair. Through the GGSA, we now have a powerful platform to work collectively with other leaders to improve shipbuilding and retrofitting outcomes.
"This partnership allows us to enhance performance benchmarks, accelerate the deployment of practical solutions, and turn strategic goals into real-world impact. By aligning global expertise and sharing knowledge, we can help guide the maritime sector’s transition in a more effective and scalable way.”
The GGSA is the third major global initiative backed by DP World, following the Zero Emission Port Alliance (ZEPA)—focused on affordable battery-electric container handling equipment—and the First Movers Coalition, which leverages collective demand to support early-stage zero-emission technologies.
