Dubai Supreme Council of Energy reviews sustainable biofuel projects

emirates7 - H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, led the 88th Council meeting, which was held virtually and attended by Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Council.

Also present were Ahmed Buti Al Muhairbi, Secretary-General of the Council, alongside board members including Marwan bin Ghalita, Director-General of Dubai Municipality; Abdulla bin Kalban, Managing Director of Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA); Saif Humaid Al Falasi, CEO of Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC); Juan-Pablo Freile, General Manager of Dubai Petroleum and Dubai Supply Authority (DUSUP); and Muna Alosaimi, CEO of the Strategy and Corporate Governance Sector at the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

The meeting focused on several strategic initiatives that demonstrate Dubai’s proactive commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2050.

Discussions included updates on progress in sustainable biofuel and green hydrogen projects, reinforcing Dubai’s role as a global leader in clean energy.

The meeting also covered the accomplishments of the World Green Economy Organisation in building international partnerships and developing local expertise to drive the shift toward a green economy.

Additionally, the Council reviewed the Demand Side Management Strategy 2050, which targets reductions in electricity, water, and fuel consumption by at least 30% by 2030 and 50% by 2050 compared to business-as-usual scenarios.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer emphasized, “Following the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, to establish Dubai as a global leader in energy efficiency, we continue to implement innovative renewable energy projects. This supports the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, aiming to generate 100% of energy from clean sources by 2050. We also highlighted sustainable biofuel and green hydrogen initiatives that diversify energy sources while balancing economic growth with sustainable development.”
