UAE authorities foil attempt to smuggle 89 capsules of cocaine through Zayed International Airport

emirates7 - The General Directorate of Ports at the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security on Friday successfully foiled an attempt to smuggle illegal drugs through Zayed International Airport. Authorities confiscated 89 capsules of cocaine, weighing around 1,198 grams and valued at approximately AED 5 million, which had been concealed inside a traveller's intestines.

The incident unfolded when customs officers at Zayed International Airport became suspicious of a passenger arriving from a South American country. Upon subjecting him to advanced screening procedures, signs of concealed foreign objects were detected within his body. The individual was then handed over to the relevant authorities, who extracted the drug-filled capsules.

The Authority commended the vigilance and professionalism of its inspection officers and reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing inspection systems. It emphasized that such efforts are part of a broader national strategy to safeguard society from the threat of narcotics and to uphold the security and stability of the country by deterring illicit activities.
